Metropolitan Police G20 Tactics "Shocked The Public" Police relied too heavily on untrained and inexperienced officers as they attempted to control protests during the G20 summit, an inquiry has warned. The Home Affairs Select Committee said tactics used by the Metropolitan Police during the April summit "shocked the public".
Government "Dithering" Over Compensation for Equitable Life Victims The Government has "dithered" over the Equitable Life scandal while pensioners suffer, a Labour MP has claimed. Barry Gardiner (Lab Brent North) urged Ministers to speed up help for hundreds of thousands of people who lost savings in the firm's near collapse, in 2000.
New Commons Committee for London Condemned as Waste of Money MPs have slammed for a new Commons committee dedicated to London as a "ludicrous talking shop". The capital is to get its own Select Committee where backbenchers will scrutinise what the Government does for the city.
Poor Facilities Keep Disabled People Off Trains Disabled people are barred from using parts of the rail network because of poor facilities, Ministers have been warned. Trains which are unsuitable for wheelchairs, a lack of Braille timetables and antiquated platform designs are excluding people with disabilities, said MP Martin Linton (Lab Battersea).
